Winning the toss, Virat Kohli, chose to bat first. While the pitch at Rajkot was an atypical - greener than usual - Indian pitch, which meant that the toss didn't have a big impact on the result of the game, it was incredibly important to win the toss on a crumbling pitch prepared for 2nd test.
Day 1 mainly belonged to India with Kohli and Pujara both getting centuries. While Pujara departed shortly after getting his century, Kohli went to go past 150. Kohli's innings has really shown his maturity over the years where he converts his hundreds into much bigger scores. This is important since these big scores typically win or save a test match.
We finished Day 1 with England making a slight comeback with Anderson getting two wickets. Pujara and Rahane both edged the ball through to the wicketkeeper.
