Day 2 Preview: The Opening day of this nPower Test Match didn’t dissappoint viewers, Andrew Strauss started off the series by winning the first battle, toss and picking to bat first. Both batsmen and bowlers showed great energetic heat to the audience. England did score at a fair pace but were able to make 336/7 at Day 1 stumps. England will be trying to get close to 400+ run mark while Australia should be looking to finish off England’s first innings by high noon in Cardiff tomorrow. More on Day 1 can be read here.
With England’s eyes set on 400 runs on the board they should be looking to maximise the advantage of spin twins – Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar later in the test on this spin-friendly Cardiff pitch. Opening hours of day 2 play would be crucial to Australia’s chances in the Test.
Looking towards the bigger image Australia needs to play mentally tough cricket where like wisely England should put James Anderson or spin twin (later in the match) to stop the run flow. On this flat surface, key success is partnership – England’s middle-order got starts but no one could go on.
