Statistical Analysis: Why Pak lost 4-0 to England

After the 4-0 loss to England in the recently concluded ODIs, I decided to analyze the performance of both teams to understand the areas Pakistan needs to work on if they are to improve in ODIs.

England clearly won it in the overs 0-10, 21-35 in the wickets department and hence were able to take advantage of it in the last 15 overs. England's Avg run-rate was higher through out the innings that of Pakistan's hence the wickets in hand. Defensive strategy is not working in the ODIs anymore, we have seen that in CB series. Australia and Sri Lanka are winning games with attacking fielding and bowling. Pakistan bowlers failed to get early wickets, on the other hand England bowlers stuck early and dented Pakistan's innings for the rest of the period. Over-confidence after the Test series was also another reason for Pakistan's defeat.

You make a good point regarding OVER CONFIDENCE

Misbah is backing too many old players in ODIs (Rahman, Farhat, Malik, YK) which is not good for Pakistan. These guys won't be there for the next WC.

Yes that is very true, Even Misbah himself won't be there. He is 37 already, Pakistan must get some youngsters in the ODI team now looking in to the Future.

Well, yea but they shouldn't get rid of every1 immediately. Misbah should stay along with Hafeez, Afridi, Ajmal & Gul.
These are the senior most men Pak has currently (yes Hafeez & Afridi may not be the most mature batsmen - mind you they are mature bowlers)
and build a team around these men

The quality in the fast bowling really was the difference to be honest. As Binning said England always got off to good starts with both bat and ball. Pakistan probably the stronger in the middle overs though.

What hasn't been brought up is the amount of overs Ajmal can bowl. He can only bowl a 5th of the overs available. That wasn't the case in the tests.

Take the second innings at Abu Dhabi for instance. Seam bowled about 3 of the 40 odd overs then.
