    "sings" of improvement huh?

As long as Hughes is scoring runs I'm happy.

Why hate? He's not the first batsman to struggle when thrown into international cricket at a young age. How about showing some support instead of just making disparaging remarks. He's only 23.

^ Yeah he can. He's just not GREAT off his pads. And word is he's changed quite a bit since we last saw him bat. So don't hate.

I don't really get your point tbh. Hughes was dropped from international cricket because he got caught behind the wicket 8 times in a row! We were talking about improvement and he got out in the same way yesterday.

When he burst on against South Africa, he was superb of his pads, at least to full deliveries.

Loving the suspense around Compton. This must have been what it was like when Bradman needed 4 to average the magical 3 figure mark.

My problem is that you've taken a statistically massive sample of ONE and are using it to say there's been no improvement, even though he scored runs. That's like saying Mike Hussey is weak on the pull shot because he got out pulling in his first test match (twice) and then in Brisbane and Perth against the poms he got out pulling AGAIN.....................................

Tony Palladino just took a hattrick in the County Championship. Sarwan was the 3rd victim.

Wonder why Hughes has never been selected in the ODI squads His stats warrant selection. Certainly ahead of the likes of FATrrest.

No way he's kinda ****. I know a guy who's seen him in action in Essex club cricket, he got belted apparently.

I assume it's because he scores too slowly. And before you say that Forrest does the same, they were clearly using the ODI's as a breeding ground for tests with regards to Forrest.

I think you're kinda right though. What a lot of people don't seem to understand is that David Warner is actually a kinda **** ODI batsmen. He's in that group of players who can whack it and play proper innings but can't get the balance quite right.

The fact that they were trying to turn Fatrrest into a test batsman is a joke. He was clearly not test standard. Never will be.

Hughes has an S/R of ~75. That's decent enough given he's got an awesome average. And it's not like we've got tons of batsmen knocking the door down.

    Fatrrest was a joke selection.

Got a quick glimpse of Hughes in

Looks good actually, I like what I see. Footwork is improved and he seems to have a more "no-fuss" approach to his batting now. (not that there's a heap to go on there, admittedly). The way he played the ball @ 1:02 impressed me most.

Hope he can keep this form up.

Still loves dat cut shot though.

Check out the back foot. Going towards the off side.

Surprised at the amount of short and wide deliveries he got though

CSB, this game was on Sky I believe, so you might be able to get good footage of it.

OK, so who was the n00b who gave Hughes a short and wide one?

Doesn't have to be that short or that wide for Hughes to play a cut shot. You should know that Oscar.

I really want him to do well, hope he can make more runs in the County Championship, we NEED more batsmen.

I'd get him in AFTER you play South Africa. He'll avoid a gun attack and then pile on the runs against SL and India. I don't know if the selectors will have the confidence to throw him into the Ashes though, especially if Tremlett is fit and firing.
